About me
I paint flowers using oil on paper. My pieces are inspired by everyday blooms, from the first snowdrops of the year, to the bluebells of spring, the cowslip and dog roses of summer, autumn crocuses and old mans beard. I spent much of my childhood in the Lake District and then studied art in Aberystwyth, I loved being surrounded by so much beauty, but it was often the small things in the cracks of the dry stone walls, that I found my inspiration. I now live in urban areas but find just as much inspiration in the flowers and plants, the herb-roberts and maidenhair ferns, that find life in walls and broken concrete corners. The plants that self seed and crop in unexpected places, so often unnoticed, defying nurture, they spark my imagination, creating art that celebrates the quiet heroes of bio diversity.
Somethings that give me inspiration
A trip to the Tate Britain to see Now You See Us. I particularly loved the room dedicated to flower paintings by amazing artists such as Mary Delany and Clara Maria Pope.
I always welcome the new flowers of spring. It all feels so fresh and exciting. It makes me look forward to what the year will bring.
Reading the second book by Alice Vincent. Loving it. Her first book 'Rootbound: Rewilding a Life' really spoke to me; the joy of finding plants and gardens anywhere we choose to look. Why Women Grow is equally interesting. Inspiring and moving accounts from women about what growing means to them.
